A retreat for music lovers! This retreat encompasses a music course.

The course offers an inspiring introduction to jazz and other musical styles, and is open to both beginners and more experienced musicians and singers. Whether you have a background in jazz, pop, soul or simply love music and want to explore your own musical expression, you are welcome.

The course is designed to help you develop your musicality, confidence and creativity, with a strong focus on singing, improvisation, interpretation and playing together with others.

You will also be encouraged to explore your own ideas and develop your own material, regardless of musical style.

We will explore:

Jazz and other musical styles, and how they have influenced each other;

Rhythm, form and harmony.

Improvisation – tools, listening and musical freedom.

Interpretation, phrasing and personal expression.

Songwriting and creating your own material.

Throughout the course, we combine group lessons with practical music-making. Through vocal workshops, ensemble playing and creative exercises, you will have plenty of opportunities to put ideas into practice, experiment and find your own musical voice.

Workshops and Coaching

The course includes regular vocal workshops focusing on voice, expression, timing and improvisation in a group setting.

In addition, there will be opportunities for one-on-one coaching with both Anna Pauline and guitarist Thomas Maintz.

These individual sessions are tailored to your personal goals and needs, whether you want to focus on technique, improvisation, interpretation, songwriting or your own creative work.

About the course leaders –

Anna Pauline Andersson

Anna Pauline is a jazz singer, songwriter, arranger and bandleader with extensive experience in both performance and education. She is active in several of her own projects and regularly collaborates with musicians in Sweden and internationally. In her artistic work, she combines tradition and contemporary perspectives, with a strong focus on expression, improvisation and musical communication.

As an educator, Anna Pauline places great importance on meeting each student where they are and creating a safe and inspiring environment where curiosity and creativity are at the centre.

Thomas Maintz

Thomas Maintz is a guitarist with a broad background in jazz and related genres. He is a highly responsive musician and an appreciated educator, with a particular focus on ensemble playing, rhythm and harmonic thinking.

Thomas works both as a professional musician and teacher and has considerable experience coaching students in improvisation, accompaniment and ensemble playing.

Both Anna Pauline and Thomas are active songwriters and composers, and their own music and creative processes are an integral part of the course.
