Jeannette MacDougall, artist

The serenity of our retreat center, A Place To Be Well -La Roane, offers the perfect environment for a summer drawing and painting workshop and a writing retreat and workshop.

As you probably realise,  both artists and writers are creative people. Here, they come together in one space.

Jeannette and Cathryn are talented instructors with years of experience teaching.  They will guide you through a thoughtful, hands-on process that blends technical instruction with creative exploration. Whichever your chosen form of art, here you can join a group of painters or writers and learn from these two wonderful teachers.

Art workshop participants will meet for morning instruction, demonstration, exercises, group critiques and personal interpretation. The location and atmosphere offers endless inspiration for plein air, still life and abstract studies including an emphasis on self discovery and group feedback. The afternoons will provide time for personal exploration through individual practice of new methods, materials and concepts. You will need basic drawing and watercolour materials with a recommended detailed list to follow.

Our philosophy is to Make Art, Find Joy!

Writers will enjoy generative writing time in the mornings with community support and feedback in the afternoons. This retreat/ workshop is best suited to those who are drafting or revising individual projects, desire professional and peer feedback, and also have some experience offering constructive feedback. Mornings after breakfast will be reserved for quick writing prompts (attendance optional), concentrated writing and wandering time. Writers will gather for their workshop in the afternoons, focusing on participants’ manuscripts, sent ahead or generated during the week, and conferences with the instructor. Multiple genres are welcome, including poetry, fiction, and narrative nonfiction.

In the evening after supper, artists and writers may gather for a time to share readings and insights from their work and work in progress.

On the Sunday morning, we will show you to Saint Antonin, where you can wander the streets of this beautiful, local village where the market is a must see.
